Understanding Our Worship

Welcome from the Pastor
Dear Guest,

Welcome to the website for Community Covenant Church. We are an independent, charismatic, evangelical fellowship of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. (See the next section for what these terms mean.) We love God because He first loved us and gave His Son to be the sacrifice for our sins. He has given us new life and is filling us with His Spirit.

We believe that God has called us as witnesses to celebrate the good news that Jesus Christ is Lord. We aim to do this by loving God and loving people.

We are located in Manlius, NY, which is near Syracuse. Our members come from all over the Syracuse area.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please ask our greeter or a neighboring worshipper. I also will be happy to help you if I can.

For all of us at Community Covenant Church in Manlius, NY,
Pastor Tom Worth

What does this Lingo Mean?
(Independent, Charismatic, Evangelical Fellowship Means?)
Independent
We are not affiliated with any denomination, but we are in fellowship with other churches locally. Also we look to Pinecrest Bible Training Center as a source of spiritual nourishment and guidance.

Charismatic
In our context this does not mean we have dazzling or glitzy leadership; it simply means that like our Pentecostal brothers and sisters, we are open to the filling and working of the Holy Spirit among us in such outward signs as speaking in tongues, prophecy and healing.

Evangelical
We believe that to be a child of God one must be born again or “born from above” in the sense of a personal conversion or surrender to Jesus Christ. One must believe the gospel, the good news of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. We are members of the Greater Syracuse Association of Evangelicals, the local chapter of the National Association of Evangelicals.

Fellowship
We experience community through our commitment to and care for one another in Christ.

Understanding Our Worship
We are a congregation of believers whom Jesus has rescued from sin and death. We can hardly help but thank Him and praise Him as we sing, pray and testify.

You may find us singing loudly or softly, or at times waiting silently in God’s presence.

Sometimes a shout of joy may punctuate the service. You may see us lifting our hands in praise, or kneeling or prostrate.

You may overhear us praying in other tongues or you may hear someone give a prophetic word or exhortation.

You may observe us lay our hands on someone in order to pray for a blessing or a healing for that one. You may see the elders anoint with oil for the same purpose.

All these expressions, and more that have not been mentioned here, are found in the New Testament Scriptures. If you have any questions please ask the pastor or a church member.
